My short stories have featured in a number of journals, as well as online, including, Riptide, Pushing Out the Boat, Shortbread Stories, To Hull and Back and Postbox Issue 2.
In 2012 my story ‘Varnish’ was published in FlyBe’s in-flight magazine. Unfortunately it was attributed to Heather Reid the Scottish meteorologist and one time weather presenter and it was at this point that I began adding my middle initial to my name!
My work has been highly placed in a number of competitions including The Ilkley Short Story Prize, The William Soutar Prize, Inspired? Get Writing!, To Hull and Back and the Happenstance Short Story Competition judged by Janice Galloway.
In 2009 my Beatles inspired story ‘With a Little Help From My Friends’ won the Shortbread Short Story Prize and in 2016 my story ‘Junk‘ was runner up in the Scottish Arts Club Short Story Competition and can be found in the anthology The Desperation Game.
In 2019 my story In the Passing won second prize in the Neil Gunn Short Story Competition.
In 2012 my story ‘Kiss,’ where thoughts of a teenager’s first kiss occupy her mind as she heads home on the school bus, was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 as part of their Opening Lines series, read by Morvern Christie. It occasionally resurfaces on Radio 4 Extra.
A collection of my short stories, Kiss and Other Stories, is available on Amazon Kindle
